WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
GS-441524 is a family member of Remdesivir that was given emergency approval for use in the fight against Covid-19 in 2020. this antiviral is showing promise with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) however is still in the trial and data research phase.
GS is used via subcutaneous injections or oral tablets for 84 - 98 days. A placebo treatment group is not included, given that preparatory in vitro and in vivo studies indicated that GS-441524 would be safe and more effective than no treatment.
WHAT IS FIP?
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is caused by the coronavirus and is diagnosed as either Effusive “Wet” form or Non-Effusive “Dry'“ form. Both forms display symptoms of fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and lethargy.
Wet Fip is characterized by a straw colored sticky fluid filling in the abdominal walls.
Dry Fip has no fluid build up but will display weight loss, fever, lack of appetite and lethargy and in later stages jaundice and lesions develop on organs resulting in ocular or neurological symptoms
