AZUKI'S FIP STORY

Our cat, Azuki, was diagnosed with wet FIP on December 28th, 2022. He’s a male Siberian and was seven months old at the time.

We’d taken him to the vet because he’d had a few accidents outside his litter box, which was abnormal for him. When our vet walked into the exam room, she took one look at how he was breathing and told us she wanted to do a chest x-ray. The results were terrifying; his lungs were full of fluid. We rushed him to the veterinary hospital where they put him on oxygen and drained the liquid.

It was there that they explained that he likely had FIP and that our options were compassionate euthanasia or GS441524. We were in shock and sceptical of using an unlicensed drug. Fortunately, our vet and breeder reassured us that they’d seen numerous cats make a full recovery.

Azuki was kept at the veterinary hospital for 24hrs. In the meantime, the FIP warrior team worked to source several emergency doses of GS441524 for us. When we brought him home, he was in terrible shape. He was deteriorating so quickly; it seemed like he was on the cusp of death. We gave him his first injection immediately and it was extremely difficult.

Fortunately, we saw a huge improvement in 48 hours. The injections also became much easier as we figured out a routine: gabapentin 1.4 hours in advance, shaving his sides, Churu treat during the injection, etc… Within a month of beginning the treatment, his blood test results had normalized. Fast forward six months and Azuki is cured of FIP and thriving. It’s hard to imagine he was ever sick. Major, major thanks to everyone at FIP Warriors for saving him. It means the world to us!
