Oakley's FIP Story

I had lost three cats to age and decided to get a kitten to keep my older fourth cat company. I found Oakley and immediately knew he was the one. He was 11 weeks old and had the bluest eyes and the softest fur. Once I got him home, I though I had the worlds calmest kitten. He never got into trouble. He slept, a lot. In just a few weeks I noticed he was never awake, his coat looked greasy and his eyes lost their sparkle. He stopped eating as much and his tummy was swollen and hard. On October 28th 2022 I took Oakley in for a checkup at the vets. They did an ultrasound and it revealed fluid in his abdomen. They did a fluid tap and it helped confirm FIP. His blood work was horrible. Not one thing was normal. I was told he was fatal and that he was in really poor shape. I sat in the vets office crying my eyes out. The vet made a phone call and came back to tell me to check out FIP Warriors for support. I immediately was in contact with the admins. They were thorough and got all his results along with videos and pictures. We arranged an emergency pickup. The first injection was awful. I had never given a needle before. I was a wreck but the admins talked me through every second of it. They answered my hundreds of questions and were there 24/7 to guide me and advise me. Within 12 hours I notice Oakley looked more alert. Within 24 hours Oakley was walking around. I couldn’t believe it. I was too scared to be hopeful because it seemed to good to be true. After one week, I noticed his belly was smaller and he was playing! My kitten was now a kitten! By the end of the first month, he was crazy! He brought so much laughter back into my life! His blood work showed it was working! X-rays revealed all the fluid was gone! We were able to switch to oral which made life easier as I could do it on my own and he continued to get better! When he graduated to observation I was a wreck all over again, but here we are, graduated to cured! His blood work is absolutely perfect! He is a healthy, very large, fluffy, bright eyed 10 month old kitten! All of the tears and anxiety… all of the sleepless nights… it was all worth it. He is my world and I am forever thankful for FIP Warriors and my vet for saving my baby boy. I can’t wait to see what the years ahead hold for me and Oakley and all the adventures we will go on! Pictured is the day he was diagnosed and the day he was official cured 6 months later.

My vet is amazed and so happy for this cure!
