MARTHA'S FIP JOURNEY
Back in July 2023, we were on our way home from vacation and our cat sitter alerted us to the fact that our (usually very active) Martha was hiding, not really eating and lethargic.
We took her to the emergency vet the next day, and they could not diagnose her properly. Some pain medication and antibiotics, even an overnight stay on IV drip, but no real change.
A few days of this, and we took her to our actual vet for a second opinion. This vet (shoutout to Dr Saeid!) took the time to run detailed bloodwork, and noticed that her eyes were turning brown. This tipped us off to the fact that it was dry ocular FIP.
We were connected to the FIP Warriors group who immediately responded, and connected us to treatment. It wasn’t easy or cheap, I will say. It was a long process, and extremely expensive, but 100% worth it to save our sweet girl’s life. We received detailed support, every step of the way. Our girl went from 3.5kg, barely eating, to a (very healthy) 5.8kg, and tearing around with the other animals. :)
I firmly believe this medication should be widely available to anyone who needs it. It saves cat’s lives. We would have been lost without this.
