Spooky's FIP Story

Early August, 2023, Spooky started losing his appetite. He deteriorated very quickly. Within a week he wasn't eating at all. He lost a lot of weight, and all his energy. His abdomen became bloated with fluid, and he staggered when he walked. He couldn't even climb the stairs anymore, I had to carry him up the stairs.

On August 14, he was diagnosed with wet fip, which my vet said was a terminal condition, but that there was an experimental treatment available through a FB support group called FIP Warriors Canada. Very expensive, but if I have the power to save him, I couldn't just let him die. I got in contact with the group, who located some meds in my area, and by evening of August 15th, Spooky got his first treatment.

It surprised me with how fast he responded. Within 24 hours, he started eating again. Just a little at first, but more every day. Within a week, his abdomen looked normal again. Every day was a noticeable improvement. He regained his lost weight, his energy level returned to normal, he was back to jumping up on the cupboard, running up and down the stairs, playing with the other cats. I couldn't be happier with his recovery, and on Feb 2, 2024, after 84 days of treatment, and 84 days of observation, my buddy Spooky was officially declared cured. Woohoo!!
